Let Sparks Fly

I hope everyone who celebrated the 4th of July had a great time! I spent it in the car heading up to Toronto, Canada. Very patriotic of me, I know. I’m up here for a few days for a wedding so it couldn’t be helped. Side story: when I was growing up, I was often away for July 4th. I think there were just a handful, or less, times that I was actually in my hometown for the holiday. When I was growing up, my mom owned a store and she closed it for a week every year during July 4th so that’s when we would go on our summer vacation.

Anyway, even though I was going to be spending a majority of the day in the car, I decided I still wanted to wear red, white & blue to be festive.

I wore two new pieces from Express that I bought on two separate occasions but that work perfectly for the holiday. This red and white graphic tee that says “let sparks fly”. Seriously, could this be any more appropriate? The colors and the saying is perfect for the 4th. These indigo crochet shorts are so comfortable with an elastic waist and can easily be dressed up or down. They give a much different look than your normal denim shorts for the “blue” in red, white & blue and they were also extremely comfortable to sit in for the long drive.

My shoes are also a somewhat newer purchase from DSW and they are so ridiculously comfortable. These also coincidentally are perfect for the holiday as they are red, white & blue flat espadrilles! The print on top is blue with white anchors, but on the inside of the strap it is red and white striped. I’m a little disappointed that the red & white stripes are only on the inside because then the pattern can’t be seen, but oh well – I still love them and I suppose it makes them more wearable on every other day of the year.
