Outdoor Menswear with Chums

Everyone thinks about the great outdoors during the summer, but actually I personally like spending time outside more in the fall because the temperature and weather are more comfortable. But, spending some time outdoors any time of the year and getting fresh air is relaxing. Did you know that 92% of people participate in outdoor activities to relax and de-stress? Whether you’re spending time outside for exercise or just for some peace of mind, I believe layering is key. Even if it’s still summer!

Chums is a great place to stock up on your clothing such as trousers and shoes suited for the great outdoors.

As mentioned above, I believe layering is key! Just because you’re outside being one with nature doesn’t mean you don’t have to look stylish while doing it! When you’re fishing, camping, or hiking you’re going to be outside for a long period of time. That means temperature changes and possible weather changes hence the need for layers. You’re also going to want to be comfortable.

Starting with basics – your undergarments! Depending on the temperature and the season you’re doing said fishing, camping, hiking, you’re either going to want a short sleeve undershirt or a long sleeve thermal one. If it’s cold out you may want thermal long johns too.

Next up, you can’t go wrong with a button down casual shirt. If it’s more moderate to warmer weather you can go with a lightweight cotton shirt. If it’s colder out, you can do a button down with a fleece lining like the second photo below. Looks the same by all appearances doesn’t it? Of course, if it’s hot out you can roll up your sleeves, but at least the long sleeves will also reduce sun exposure.

I think jeans are good for most outdoor activities unless you’re doing something very athletic. But for things like fishing, camping, hiking jeans are fine. I think jeans are especially perfect for fishing because you don’t want to get fish stuff on a pair of khakis or trousers!

Now for outerwear. I really like these vests or gilets which are perfect for those chilly days when it’s not too cold out. Imagine sitting on a fishing boat on a chilly morning with this vest and a hot thermos of coffee!

And again if it’s colder you can wear a heavier jacket with a hood too for any rain or windy weather.

Socks are a pretty basic item, but you’re going to want thick socks so your feet don’t get blisters with all that walking or outdoor activity. Especially when you’re wearing boots that you may not have worn in. Chums offers Below Zero Socks too for cold weather, say if you decide to do ice fishing or snow sports. However, they’re great too for hiking or walking in the cold weather.

Lastly, footwear! Hiking boots are really versatile and perfect for fishing, camping, hiking (of course) and more. However, I do quite like these all weather boots as well!

As you can see there are so many choices for outdoor wear and you can look good too. No need to wear old, beaten up clothing when you can find affordable, stylish, and practical clothing for your favorite outdoor pastimes.

My advice is to take in to account what activity you’ll be doing and what the general weather will be like. Keep in mind if you’ll be out all day because mornings and nights will be cooler than the afternoon. Again, this is why layering is key!

Below is a useful infographic with some outfit ideas for different kinds of activities from country walks to golf to fishing.
