Pottery
This is really a classic, and it is one that still endures to this day. If you have never tried pottery but you have always wanted to, you are not alone: a lot of people say that they would at least like to try and make a pot one day. Of course, this is not the kind of thing you are going to be doing in your home before you have gained some experience with it, so you will first need to think about finding a local class where you can go and learn the essentials. If you pay upfront for an entire course, that can be a great way to ensure that you really get into it, and it will mean that you are going to be able to get much more out of it too. Then if you are still keen on it, you can think about setting up a kiln area at home and starting to make your own creations as you please. Pottery is really a very pleasing craft to get into, so this is something you should consider if you want to do something active with your hands.

Woodworking
The beauty of woodworking is that there is so much you can make, much of it being especially useful and practical as well as looking good. It is one of those things which is both an art and a craft, and you will find that there are many skills involved in it which you will be developing over time. You will need some tools to get started, but you can start relatively simply with just a few choice pieces of equipment and some scrap material which you have found somewhere. With just the basics, you can start on making boxes and the like, and that can be a great way to get practising with the necessary skills involved in more complex woodworking. If you think you are going to get into it properly, then one of your first projects could be to make yourself a workbench for use in future projects. That can be easily done, but will provide you with plenty of experience along the way – and you will have your very own workbench at the end of it.

Paper Crafting
For something simpler but no less enjoyable, try paper crafting. One of the benefits of this kind of craft is that you really can do it in the home without any trouble and it is not going to take up much space. You can also get into it fairly cheaply – all you really need to do is to look somewhere like craftdirect for the essential supplies, and find some good quality paper which you can use. Then you can get to work on creating some beautiful paper creations which are going to really help you get your creativity flowing. This is ideal if you are just looking for something simple and sweet, perhaps the kind of thing you could do with your children on a rainy day.

If you have never looked into making your own soaps before, you might be blown away by just how simple it is. A basic soap consists of little more than some plumber’s lye, a few essential oils and some kind of fat, normally olive oil. That is then left to set in a soap mould, and in a few weeks you have soap. The real joy is that you can create all kinds of soaps based on what kind of scents and so on you personally have a preference for. With soap making, you have an enjoyable way to create your own luxurious bathroom products, with the added bonus of not having to support those companies you’d rather not support. Get soap making today, and you won’t turn back in a hurry.
