    Floral Stitching

The weather has turned from cool, autumn days to pretty chilly seemingly overnight. To top it off the past two days have been windy and a little rainy. Therefore, my color palette hasn’t been the brightest as of late. This could also be affected by the fact that I’ve been so tired lately! I wore this grey 3/4 sleeve top yesterday with dark jean skinnies and boots. The top has white floral stitching on the front. The brightness of the white stands out perfectly against the blue-ish grey of the material. The jeans look almost black in these pictures, but they are actually a very dark blue denim so my…

    Photo Challenge: Minimalist

Happy Friday! Even though the week went by pretty quickly and I, thankfully, was not drowning in work for the first week in a while, I still felt like it was an exhausting week. Yesterday was a particularly tiring day, which I will actually be posting about soon! Ok, so actually I’m writing this on Thursday night and scheduling this to be posted on Friday morning – I’m tired, cold and it’s flurry-ing outside! So I’m going to keep this short and sweet, which actually works because the past week’s photo challenge was Minimalist. Minimalist can be hard sometimes, because I feel like what usually captures my attention to take a picture…

    Tuscan Chicken Stew

A few weeks ago I wrote about breaking out the slow cooker for the chillier weather. That was for my Chicken Tortilla Soup post — this time around, I tried my hand at a Tuscan Chicken Stew. I was looking for slow cooker recipes and came across this one from Sweet Peas & Saffron and it looked pretty straight forward, but I did change the recipe up a little bit. I cut up all the vegetables that had to go into the slow cooker. The recipe calls for baby potatoes, but I used red skin potatoes and cut them in quarters. The original recipe has you put the raw chicken right into the…

    Fringed Lace & Layers Top

Now that Halloween seems like a distant memory (how’d that happen so quickly?) – we are getting into holiday mode. I went to the mall yesterday and all the Christmas decorations including the tree and a line for pictures with Santa, were already there. I haven’t begun my Christmas shopping yet, but I have started a list of what I plan to get people or at least my ideas for them. This post is not actually holiday related, but I’m making the connection because the color of the top I wore yesterday and the style are very holiday-ish in my opinion. Top: LC Lauren Conrad via Kohls Pants: Uniqlo Watch: Anne Klein The upper half of my…

    Ruffian Manicure

I haven’t had time to do my nails in a few weeks. It’s been a busy few weeks at work with the end of the marking period so I had no time to myself that would allow me the time to do my nails and wait for them to dry. Well, the marking period just ended so I finally had a little time to myself over the weekend. Over the summer, I saw this cute manicure over at Beautezine and while looking for manicure ideas over on Pinterest over the weekend I came across the same idea again and wanted to give it a try. I used a white polish from…

    Polka Dot Layered Top OOTD

It’s a brand new week and I have a new OOTD for you all. However, it’s technically an outfit from last Friday. Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part that it was still the weekend! So today I’m showing you a layered look. It is one piece, but looks like separates and I love the effect. Top: Loft Jeans: Loft Shoes: Keds Crash Back Slip-on Sneaker via DSW Watch: Fossil I don’t remember exactly where I got this necklace from, but I feel like it was from JCrew Factory. I loved pairing this necklace with the top, because the top has this casual, classy vibe with it’s grey and white combo. It looks classy…

    Product Spotlight: Caudalie Grape Water

Sunday already – the weekends always go by too fast! I’m not going to say “Happy Sunday” since I’m not too thrilled the work week starts up again tomorrow! Anyway, let’s forget about that for a moment and take a look at Caudalie’s Grape Water. Over the summer I wrote about Urban Decay’s B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray, which I love. I used that up and while I have a backup of that, I also had another spray in my stash that I wanted to try out. Enter the Grape Water spray. The spray claims  that it is: A 100 percent grape water toner enriched with moisturizing polysaccharides and mineral salts.…

    Stretch Cords

Stretch cord pants. Are. Life. Seriously, they are my favorite pants to wear to work. They look work appropriate because they essentially look like a very thin lined cord or corduroy pant, but they are stretch so you’re walking around in the most comfortable pants ever all day. Here’s a secret – the button at the top is even fake and it’s all elastic on top. Best thing ever. Cardigan: Chadwicks Top: Loft Pants; Uniqlo Shoes: Chinese Laundrey via DSW I love that the pinwale (the lines) are so fine on these pants. In the past, I have had wider pinwale pants, but these fine lines look more youthful and fresh whereas I feel like…

    Photo Challenge: Descent

A couple years ago I went to Tennessee with my family. One of the sites we went to see was Lookout Mountain. One way up the mountain is by taking the Incline Railway, supposedly the world’s steepest passenger railway. Luckily, I’m not afraid of heights, so this was a really cool experience and perfect for this week’s photo challenge which was descent. I remember not being able to get a really good shot from inside the rail car, but this is a shot of the railcar approaching the top of the mountain….or maybe it’s on its way down – it’s really hard to tell and I really don’t remember! Anyway,…

    Apple Walnut Cake

I’m back with another fall recipe that I found and used with the second half of the apples I got when I went on my failed apple picking trip. I made an apple crostata with the first half of the apple batch and made an apple walnut cake with the second half. Instead of making another apple crostata, I wanted to try something different. I found this apple walnut coffee cake recipe and decided to give it a try. I stuck with that recipe for the most part, except I swapped out the white sugar for brown sugar, because as I’ve said before brown sugar just seems (to me) the better…
