Book Review: First-Time Caller

It’s not a secret that I am a big B.K. Borison fan. I loved all of her Lovelight Farms books which I’ve talked about a lot on here over the past few years. First-Time Caller is the first book in her new Heartstrings series and it is hands down probably going to be one of my favorite reads of the year. B.K. Borison was inspired by the movie Sleepless in Seattle for this book which was one of my favorite movies growing up.

The novel follows Lucie Stone and Aiden Valentie. Aiden is the host of a romance radio show called Heartstrings in Baltimore. Lucie’s 12-year old daughter calls in for advice because she thinks her mom is lonely. When Lucie finds out and ends up on the phone with Aiden, it is a little embarrassing for her, but a huge hit with listeners. The public is crazy for Lucie and when Aiden’s producer realizes that having Lucie on the show on a regular basis would increase ratings they make her the offer. Everyone wants to follow along on Lucie’s journey to find love and Aiden says he will help her in exchange for her helping him believe in love again. But as the two spend multiple nights a week side by side on the radio and become friends, will Aiden be able to find her a date and possible love or will he fall in love with her himself?

I loved this book so much! The banter between Lucie and Aiden was so fun and it had me wanting to kick my feet and giggle half the time. I loved watching them get to know one another and their adorable back and forth that was so entertaining. Jackson was a fun side character and I can’t wait for his book because he just seems so high strung. Lucie’s daughter, Maya was so cute and such a character.

And without spoiling anything, I have to give props to B.K. Borison that she did not leave little story details unfinished, which always annoys me when authors do. Like they introduce little side storylines and then forget about them. But the side stories about Aiden’s parents and a guy Lucie briefly interacts with at work are wrapped up by the end and I so appreciated it because it didn’t leave anything unfinished. I’m hoping we get a lot of them in Jackson’s book!

Anyway, I absolutely loved this book and will be thinking about it for a long time.

Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the friends to lovers trope and is based off of Sleepless in Seattle.

P.S. How cute is my romance book club tee? I got it from Caffeine and Curses after I saw an ad on Instagram. I thought the cassette tape was perfect for this book.
