A Kingdom of Stars & Shadows by @authorhollyrenee A Kingdom of Stars & Shadows by @authorhollyrenee is a really quick, fast paced, fantasy romance and helped me not fall in to a book hangover after Fourth Wing! This is the first book in a series and follows Adara, a human young woman who was born with star marks on her face and back. Being Starblessed is rare and she has been betrothed since she was born to the fae prince, Gavril. The fae believe that if they drink the blood of the Starblessed it will heighten their powers. Adara does not want to go live in the palace, marry Gavril, or have him take her blood. The only person she feels like she may be able to trust is Evren, the captain of the royal guard, who is escorting her on the journey. There is an instant attraction between them, but she is betrothed to the prince. And she learns that Evren is the prince’s brother! 😱 She tries to avoid Evren, since she doesn’t know if she can actually trust him either, but when the vampyres attack, she must go with him to find safety. 💕 This was a fun read with plenty of spice - more than you think they’d be able to have since it’s a forbidden romance! 🌶️🤣 But fast paced and entertaining with some darker elements of magic, fae, and vampyres. Fourth Wing by @rebeccayarros is everywhere these Fourth Wing by @rebeccayarros is everywhere these days and I’m another person here to tell you that it is worth the hype! 🐉 📖🩷 The book follows 20 year old Violet Sorrengall, a new cadet in the Riders Quadrant at her war college. Dragon riders are highly respected, but Violet has spent her whole life training to join the Scribe Quadrant due to her love of books, her small size, and her chronic illness that leaves her easily injured. When her mother, the commanding general of the school, tells her she has to become a rider like her older siblings, Violet has no choice. Now she has to survive training and hopefully be deemed strong enough for a dragon to want to bond with her. Not only does Violet need to survive through training and all the deadly obstacles courses to become a rider, but cadets can kill each other too. After all, the less cadets, the better chance you have of getting a dragon 🐉👀. Violet is fast and smart, but she’s not the strongest or tallest so she’s at a disadvantage. The person she least expected to want to help her is her wing leader, Xaden Riorson, a third year and her enemy. As much as they are enemies, they are part of the same wing and Xaden finds himself wanting to help Violet train so she can survive and Violet finds herself wanting the incredibly hot Xaden’s help because he’s the strongest of them all. 💕🗡️ I’m obsessed with Violet and Xaden and their enemies to lovers story. I love Xaden so much. He’s protective of Violet, but also so supportive and knows she’s capable of so much and badass. He doesn’t coddle or control her.🙌🏻 I loved Violet’s journey. I cried during the last bit of the book and I’m not going to say why cause of spoilers but it was emotional 😭🥹!! I can’t wait for the next book to come out this fall! 📚 Read this if you want an enemies to lovers fantasy romance with tension, mystery, magic, dragons, fighting, slow burn leading to spice!🔥 My full review is on the blog ✨

Book spotlight on South Eight by Larry Atlas on th Book spotlight on South Eight by Larry Atlas on the blog today 📖. This medical drama follows doctor and veteran Abel Arkin as he helps patients in the upstate New York hospital he works at and flashes back to his time as a spotter on an Army sniper team. Things from his past resurface as he treats a patient. I ended up skimming this book just because of my reading mood, but what I read of it I really liked Arkin and Kate, his love interest who is a nurse at the hospital. I may revisit the book in the future because I did like the main characters! They have been pen pals since 5th grade when their teachers thought Ryen was a boy and Misha was a girl, live 30 minutes away from each other, and have never met but are best friends. Then, suddenly 3 months ago tragedy strikes Misha's family and he stops writing to Ryen as his whole world comes crashing down. Ryen has no idea why Misha stopped writing, but she always promised to never stop so she continues to write to him. 💌📪 Now, Misha is spending the last 6 weeks of high school at Ryen's school under a fake name with a mission in mind. He knew seeing Ryen was a big possibility, but what he finds is not what he expected. Ryen is a popular cheerleader and sort of a bully, the exact type of person she wrote about for years to dislike. He can't help but taunt her and get under her skin on purpose as Masen. Meanwhile, Ryen doesn't know why the new kid at school has it out for her or why she is so drawn and attracted to him when she doesn't even know him. And she wants to know why her best friend, Misha, has abandoned her. 📖 I really liked this novel. There were times when Ryen and her behavior really annoyed me but as the story went on and you learn why she acts the way she does, I started to like her again and understand her. I loved the friendship between Ryen and Misha and how they had each other through their letters for so many years. I think parts of it are so relatable because everyone has wanted to fit in at some point and not be seen as an outcast even if it means doing things against your character, especially as a teenager. There was a twist at the end that I did not see coming and it actually made me like Misha even more. 💖 if you read the book you’ll get the significance of the scarf in the photo! 💙 #iykyk Read this if you want a spicy, new adult novel with the childhood friends to lovers and bully romance tropes.
