Book Review: Six Scorched Roses

Last week I read The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent and this week I read the novella in the same Crowns of Nyaxia series – Six Scorched Roses.

This novella follows Lilith. A young woman who lives in a village that seems to have offended one of the gods and has been cursed. Over the years the crops have failed, the land has started to die, and the people have gotten sick and literally withered away to dust. Lilith has a scientific mind and she gets the idea to venture out of her village to the large home that is rumored to be the home of a vampire, Vale. The only vampire in their human country. There, she makes a deal with him. If she can visit once a month for six months and take a vial of his blood each time she will give him a rose in return. Not just any rose, she tells him it is special. What does Lilith want to do with Vale’s blood? She wants to study it and turn it into some sort of cure for all the people dying in her home land. He agrees. Six vials of blood – six roses. Will they be able to find a cure and save the people of her home?

I really enjoyed this novella and felt like the storyline fit the novella format really well. And I loved Lilith and Vale! It was so sweet to watch how close they became and how much Vale wanted to help her with her research.

I’m excited to start the second novel in the Crowns of Nyaxia series soon!

You don’t have to have read The Serpent and the Wings of Night first, because this is a separate side story, but I’m interested to see if it will play a role in the second novel!

Read this if you want a spicy fantasy romance with vampires.
