Book Review: Bride

I’ve heard mixed reviews for Ali Hazelwood’s first paranormal romance – Bride. I know many people who loved it and said it was one of their favorite reads of the year so far and I’ve seen a few people who didn’t like it as much. Regardless, I knew I would read it and hoped that I would like it. I’m here to tell you that I loved it!

This paranormal romance is actually lighthearted and has funny moments and writing, which was so fun since most paranormal romances are on the darker side. The novel follows Misery Lark, a Vampyr. She’s the daughter of a powerful vampyr councilman in the Southwest. The Vampyrs, Weres, and humans all live in separate territories, which helps to maintain some sort of peace although there are always deaths along the borders. Vampyrs and Weres, especially, have been enemies for centuries. But with some younger people rising in ranks and tired of their people dying, new efforts in peace are underway. One way to achieve peace? A marriage between the vampyrs and weres. Misery’s father arranges her to marry Lowe Moreland, the new alpha Were. At first, Misery does not want to do it at all, but when she finds a clue that leads to believe Lowe may know something about the disappearance of her best friend, Serena – who is human, she quickly decides to go through with it. Will the two learn to get along even though they’ve been trained to hate each other all their lives? Will their marriage of convenience actually become a real marriage?

Like I said at the beginning of this post I loved this book! It was fun, funny, lighthearted, spicy and the slow burn was so good. I loved Misery and Lowe. Lowe’s little sister, Ana, was adorable and a scene stealer for sure. I really enjoyed the storyline and the relationships and friendships that are developed through the novel. The ending sets up really nicely for a second book featuring another potential couple and I hope Ali Hazelwood writes it!

Read this if you want a spicy, lighthearted paranormal romance with the marriage of convenience, slow burn tropes.
