Book Review: Shatter Me

I’m finally reading the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi and finding out what all the fuss about Aaron Warner is about!

Shatter Me is the first book in the series of the same name. The series has 11 books if you count all the novellas that come between some of the main novels, which I plan to read. It follows Juliette Ferrars, a teenage girl in a dystopian future world. The novel begins with her being in a sort of jail or asylum. She hasn’t spoken to anyone or been outside in almost a year. Then, one day, she gets a cell mate – Adam Kent. We don’t know why either of them is there, but we learn that no one can touch Juliette unless they want to die because her touch can kill.

The country – what was once the US – is now run by The Reestablishment. They control everything and say they know what’s best for the people. But not is all as it seems and there may be more to Juliette’s condition than meets the eye. Is it a curse or a gift? All she knows is she’s drawn to Adam even though she’s never had a reason to trust anyone and Warner, the commander of the sector they’re in is totally invested in her. He wants to work with her and says they can be powerful together. But, she doesn’t know why he’s so interested in her or what his intentions are especially since he works for the Reestablishment, who seem like the bad guys.

Who can she trust and can she escape this prison/asylum?

I enjoyed the book and it was actually a much quicker read than I was anticipating. I wasn’t completely hooked into the story, but it was still engaging and interesting. Since I know some things about the book and some things about the characters from social media, it’s making me more interested in continuing with the series because I know some things and want to see how it happens or how things change.

Read this if you want a YA dystopian novel with romance.
