Book Review: The Shadow Bride
Last week I read The Shadow Bride by Shelby Mahurin – the sequel to The Scarlet Veil and last book in the duology/last book in the Serpent & Dove world. It’s sad that it was the last book set in this universe, but I thought it was a great wrap-up.

The novel picks up shortly after the end of The Scarlet Veil, so if you haven’t read that yet, you may want to save this review for a later date since there will be spoilers!
Célie is now a vampire after being turned by Michal when she was dying after being attacked. It’s hard enough adjusting to her new life without also having to save the world. Not only is she a Bride of Death, but Death has made it through the veil and is trying to bring it down to merge the worlds of the living and dead. Revenants (basically zombies) are coming back from the dead to prey on the living. Célie, Michal, Odessa, Dimitri, Mila, Lou, Reid, Coco, and Beau must find a way to close the rips and holes that have formed in the veil and send Death back to the other side before he brings it all down.
I really enjoyed this novel and being reunited with Célie, Michal, and everyone. I love Célie and Michal together and I have loved seeing Célie’s evolution through the Serpent & Dove books and this duology. She has grown so much and is really an amazing character. I gave the book 4 out of 5 stars on GoodReads, mostly because I felt like some parts of the book were a bit slow and dragged on – especially in the beginning and parts of the middle. Once it picked up, it was addictive, but that wasn’t until the second half of the book. The ending was a really great wrap-up for the whole series and S&D universe which I really appreciate because I’m the kind of person who never wants a book/universe to end and I really dislike when you don’t see where characters ended up or what they’re up to a little further down the line so I love that Shelby Mahurin gave a really great epilogue type ending.
Overall, parts of this novel were a little slow but it was a great book and an amazing ending to this series.
