Book Review: Sounds Like Love
Last week I read the latest from Ashley Poston, Sounds Like Love. It should come as no surprise that I loved the book and cried as well because it seems to be par for the course with Ashley Poston books.

Joni Lark is a rising hit songwriter with some big hits to her name already. Sebastian Fell is a former boyband star and son of a famous singer. When they first met, in the private box at a concert for a pop sensation, they didn’t get off on the best foot. Joni thought Sebastian was a little arrogant since he assumed she was a fan of his and didn’t know she was in the business as well. But when they get caught on the kiss cam and the whole audience is screaming at them to kiss, they do. And everything changes. Not only is it the best kiss of either of their lives, but now they can hear each other’s thoughts.
Joni heads home for the summer to Vienna Shores. She visits with her family including her mother who is suffering from dementia and helps out at her family’s music venue which has been in the family for generations. But Joni’s time back home isn’t just a visit with her family. She is going through a lot. Personally – her parents inform her and her brother that they’re going to sell The Revelry at the end of the summer. This is a huge blow to Joni especially as she also copes with her mother’s illness. Professionally – Joni has had writer’s block ever since her mother got sick and has been unable to write anything new. Until she starts hearing a melody in her head and a voice that is helping her write a song and create music again. The voice becomes her new friend and soon they communicate enough that he travels from LA to Vienna Shores to work with her in person. Will their intimate connection lead them to more than a creative relationship?
I loved this book. As mentioned at the start of this post, the book made me emotional and cry which is normal for me with Ashley Poston’s books. What I wasn’t expecting going in to this book was that it wouldn’t be Joni and Sebastian’s relationship that made me emotional, but Joni and her mom’s. Joni is so close with her mom and her mom’s struggles with dementia – and knowing that this loving and vibrant woman was slowly forgetting her own life and her loved ones – was heartbreaking.
Read this if you want a magical realism romance that has some spice.
