Book Review: The Antiquarian’s Object of Desire

The Antiquarian’s Object of Desire by India Holton is the third book in the Love’s Academic series and follows Amelia Tarrant and Caleb Sterling.

Amelia and Caleb are magical historians and specialize in magical antiques. They have been best friends since they were little kids at boarding school. However, their bosses don’t think it’s appropriate for the two of them to work so closely together since they’re of the opposite sex, so they have been pretending to be enemies for years. After causing one too many explosions and disasters from their “fights” they are sent to a manor house in Cumbria to look through the owner of the house’s antiques. Of course, more drama ensues! How long can Amelia and Caleb pretend to hate each other when they secretly love each other?

I loved the premise of this book and I really liked Amelia and Caleb, but the actual execution of the book fell a little flat for me. I just never got hooked on it. I really loved her Dangerous Damsels series more in general, but I do appreciate the whimsical, quirkiness that this novel and the Love’s Academic books have just as with Dangerous Damsels.
