Book Review: Tropesick

Over the summer I heard a lot of people talking and raving about Tropesick by Lauren Okie, so I moved it up on my tbr and read it this past week.

Tropesick follows Katie Caruso and Tyler McNally. Katie is a ghostwriter and has written a few bestselling romances, usually with a writing partner. When she’s assigned to write a romance for one of the authors she’s written for before, a very famous and reclusive woman, Meredith Bradford, she’s thrown for a loop when her writing partner leaves for another job. Her agent sends along another writer and Katie is shocked when it turns out to be Tyler McNally – her late brother’s best friend. Katie and Tyler grew up next door to each other and Tyler was best friends with her brother, Mikey. The two had a sort of secret relationship going on during their teens before tragedy struck and tore Katie and Tyler apart. Now, 8 years later, they are forced to work together on a romance novel. Not only do they have to work together, but they are both staying at Meredith’s mansion in the Hamptoms so they can work all day long together throughout the summer. As they work together professionally, they’re forced to come to terms with their past and feelings for one another. And as they work through the tropes for their fictional romance, they start to come to life in real life too.

I loved this book so much. I was so immersed in the book that I felt like I was going through everything they were going through. I loved Katie and Tyler and everything they went through was so heartbreaking, but their love for each other and Katie not giving up on Tyler really made me love the book so much more. There are sad parts to the book that made me have to take little breaks from reading just because the book made me feel so much, but the story is just so good that I still loved it.

This is definitely going to be a book that sticks with me for a long time.

Read this if you want a contemporary romance with the friends to lovers and second chance romance tropes (among many others). Do check the trigger warnings though!
