Cleaning – Stress Relieving or Stress Inducing?

Do you find cleaning to be stressful or stress relieving? For me, it depends on what kind of cleaning you’re talking about. Laundry? No problem. In fact, I enjoy doing laundry and the whole process of making my clothes nice and clean. Dishes are okay too, although I use my dishwasher for most things likes plates, cups, silverware. I would say those things are stress relieving for me, or at least don’t add stress to my life. I feel like I’m accomplishing a lot and who doesn’t like making things nice and clean? So yeah, laundry and dishes are pretty easy for me and require little thought and effort. Sure, my washing machine takes forever to finish a load, but that’s a whole other story.

Moving on to the more stressful areas of cleaning for me – vacuuming and washing the floors. This isn’t so much stressful as it is tiring and annoying. Does anyone else break out in a full sweat vacuuming and washing the floor? I hope it’s not just me! Seriously, I count this as cardio with how much work it is and how much I sweat! I mean, I don’t hate it but the thought of doing it every Saturday or Sunday morning does induce a little stress and a bit of dread. To be honest, I’m a little crazy about getting my cleaning done every week. It gives me anxiety to not get my cleaning done. In some ways it is stressful for me to plan things around my cleaning schedule. Or fit in my cleaning around my social life. Because I am not the kind of person who can just skip it for the week. That’s just not going to happen. At all. And I’m just talking about cleaning the floors and dusting. Let’s not get started on cleaning bathrooms because that I do loathe.

As sad as it is, I really do have to plan out my weekends and figure out which day I can fit in my floor cleaning and dusting. I feel like when you need to schedule in time to do something weekly, it’s always going to be somewhat stressful and feel like an obligatory chore. And again, not doing it is not an option. I might complain about it, but I need it to be clean! Besides all the exertion and sweat, I think I also find floor cleaning to be the worst because it takes forever. It’s not a quick chore at all. It takes me forever and I’m not even being super thorough to be honest. First, I vacuum the floors in every room and my carpeted stairs as well. Side note: Lugging the vacuum up and down the stairs and vacuuming each step and the landings is a work out in itself. Anyway, after vacuuming I dry Swiffer all the tiles floors. Overkill? Not in my opinion because the vacuum doesn’t pick up all the dust and particles. You’d think after vacuuming and Swiffering every week that the floors would be fairly clean. But no, my Swiffer pads are always so dirty! Then, I wet Swiffer to wash the floors. Granted, this should be easier since I’m not using a legit mop and bucket or anything, but it’s still tiring, time consuming, and the worst chore. Aside from bathrooms because as mentioned above I don’t want to get in to that whole thing!
