Book Review: Wreck the Halls

This week I read Tessa Bailey’s latest Christmas romance, Wreck the Halls. I loved Window Shopping so I was excited to read her latest spicy Christmas romcom and look at how adorable the cover is!

The novel follows Beat Dawkins and Melody Gallard. Their mothers (Octavia and Trina) used to be good friends and a partners in a rock duo in the 80s/early 90s, but had a falling out (no one knows the reason) and broke up 30 years ago right before Beat and Melody were born. Despite only meeting once when they were teenagers, they have both always felt like they were kindred spirits. No one else in the world knows what it’s like to grow up the offspring of one of the Steel Birds. They have often thought of each other throughout their lives. Since they were kids the public and reporters have hounded them asking if they think Steel Birds will ever reunite and their answer is always a resounding no. But now at 30, Beat is getting blackmailed and he is trying to protect his parents from the blackmailer, but after paying off the blackmailer for the past 5 years he doesn’t have the funds to continue to do it. Over the years, he has turned down many offers to try to get Steel Birds to do a reunion, but a new offer catches his interest now that he needs the money. A production company wants to do a reality show with him and Melody as they try to convince their mothers to reunite. If they can get their mothers to reunite and perform together on Christmas Eve at Rockefeller Center they will get a million dollars!

Melody spent all her teenage years being ridiculed by the press for her looks, braces, etc. so she has enjoyed being out of the spotlight as an adult. But when she finds out that Beat, her long time crush, is considering a reality show to reunite their mothers she seriously considers putting herself back out in the public eye. However, Beat has always felt protective of her – even from afar – and as much as he needs this show and reunion to work he doesn’t want to see Melody get hurt.

Will the two who have secretly liked each other for the past 14 years finally get together? Will they succeed in getting their mothers to reunite?

I enjoyed this book and all its banter, spice, and I really liked Melody and Beat! I loved Melody and Beat’s playful conversations and the spice was so good. However, the book was a little drawn out and too long though in my opinion. I love spicy romcoms and Christmas romcoms as well, but this one is nearly 350 pages and it’s not like a ton happens in it that it needed to be that long in my opinion! And for how long it is I don’t know how the ending ended up being so abrupt lol. I would’ve loved a longer ending about the friendship between Octavia and Trina and I especially would’ve loved an epilogue for Beat and Melody!

Despite those little things, I did still enjoy the book!
