Book Review: Merry Ex-Mas
Another weekend closer to Christmas and another Christmas read done! I loved Courtney Walsh’s Christmas book last year – A Cross-Country Christmas – so I was excited to read another Christmas book by her – Merry Ex-Mas.

The novel follows Marin and Max. Marin’s home town of Pleasant Valley takes Christmas seriously and has fun events for weeks leading up to Christmas. Marin’s family also has a lot of fun traditions for the holiday that Marin loves. But, Marin hasn’t been home for the holidays in 8 years – ever since her childhood best friend and ex-boyfriend broke her heart. Marin is a reporter in Denver and after talking so much over the years about Christmas in her small hometown, she has been sent home to do segments on the Christmas events there and if it goes well she could be up for a promotion. Marin goes home with her producer and cameraman, ready to surprise her parents when who should open the door? None other, but Max who apparently has been spending Christmas with her family these past few years.
Can Marin handle spending the next few weeks with her ex? Do they still have feelings for each other? Marin may not want to have to spend time with Max, but the viewers love them together and it quickly becomes apparent that the two will have to play it up for the cameras to increase her chances of getting the promotion.
I enjoyed this book and really loved Max and Marin’s parents. I liked Marin, but she sometimes got on my nerves a little because she was so stubborn in not wanting to hear Max out. She was also sometimes really mean to him and yeah I get that he broke her heart, but he at the time he was also going through a lot of hardship and loss so I don’t know why she couldn’t just listen to what he had to say and listen to his apology.
Overall, I did really like the book and storyline though! I wish I lived in a small town that did all these fun Christmas-y things!
Read this if you want a Christmas romance with the second chance romance and fake dating tropes.
