Book Review: Improbable Meet-Cute Novellas
A month or two ago when I found out that Amazon Original Stories had gotten six popular romcom authors including Christina Lauren, Ashley Posten, and Sally Thorne to write meet-cute novellas for Valentine’s Day I knew I wanted to read them. They were all about an hour-ish long each and I was able to read them all in a few days! Keep reading for my mini reviews for each one!

The Exception to the Rule

It takes place over 10 years. When they’re both in high school, he accidentally emails her instead of his teacher and the two go back and forth emailing each other every Valentine’s Day keeping personal details and their identities under wraps. Eventually 10 years later they decide to finally meet when they’ll both be back in their hometown.
This one was my favorite of the novellas in the collection and it just made my heart happy!
Worst Wingman Ever

In this one a young woman gets a Valentine’s Day card on her windshield that is meant for someone else. The guy who left it there was doing his brother a favor and put it on the wrong car. The two start leaving each other notes while both dealing with personal issues, but the notes make them happy. After a while they realize their unlikely connection.
This one was my second favorite. I loved the characters and it made me tear up. My only critique for it was that I wish it had been a chapter longer or had an epilogue or that the characters had figured out their connection a little sooner.
Rosie and the Dreamboat

In this novella, Rosie is at a fancy spa with her sister. She gets trapped inside a float tank and they have to call the fire department to try to get her out. One of the firefighters stays with her and talks to her from outside the tank to keep her calm while everyone else tries to find a way to get the tank open.
I liked the storyline and the characters, but the dialogue was kind of cringy
Drop, Cover, and Hold On

In this one, Daisy is walking past her favorite bakery deciding whether to go in or not after she had told herself she’d never go back. The food there is amazing, but she always feels like the owner/baker hates her. She decides to go in anyway and then an earthquake hits and she’s trapped inside with just the baker.
I liked this one, but it started off a bit slow for me. I wasn’t sure I’d end up liking it because it was going so slow but then it picked up and I ended up really enjoying it.
With Any Luck

Audrey Love is lucky in all things except for love. Every guy she kisses ends up leaving her and meeting his soulmate. When she’s away for her best friend’s wedding, where she’s the best man, she is reunited with a guy she dislikes – the bride’s best friend. And his last name just happens to be Luck.
I liked this one and thought the premise was really cute, but I didn’t think the fmc was that likable actually! I didn’t dislike her, but I just wasn’t that invested in her character.
Royal Valentine

In this novella, a princess of a small country wants an escape from her life and pretends to be her assistant so she can spend a few days unaccompanied in Rome. She is sightseeing when she passes out and is saved by a man who is a photographer. She keeps her true identity a secret from him since he doesn’t seem to recognize her only to find he is keeping a secret too.
I really liked the premise of this story, but it was a bit slow for me.
So those are my mini reviews for the six novellas in Improbable Meet-Cute collection!
