Book Review: Alice the Cat
I was sent a copy of Alice the Cat by Tim Cummings months and months ago and finally read it this week. It is an entertaining middle grade/YA book that actually did also make me a bit emotional at times.

The novel follows Tess, a 12 year old girl whose mother recently passed away due to cancer. As she tries to cope with the loss of her mother, she’s also dealing with the beginning of her teenage years, a father who is so sad and depressed over his wife’s passing she’s dubbed him a “zombie”, and a cat that seems to be suicidal.
I loved following Tess as she worked through all of her feelings and what was going on with her, her dad, and her cat, Alice. The book had a really nice message and I think can be so relatable to readers who have lost someone close to them or just feel a bit lost. I loved Tess finding help from unlikely new friends Eddie and Cotter. Eddie was so lovable and I loved how he was so selfless and helpful to Tess. And Cotter’s crush on Tess was adorable and hilarious.
I did find some of the dialogue and language in the book to be a little too cheesy even for a middle grades book, but overall I enjoyed the book, the characters, and storyline.
