Book Review: Girl Abroad
I have loved every Elle Kennedy book I’ve ever read and the latest book I’ve read by her is Girl Abroad which came out earlier this year. I, honestly, went into the book not sure if I’d love it or not because it has the love triangle trope and that’s not a trope I love. But, I’m happy to share that I loved the book!

The novel follows Abbey Bly, a 19 year old college student and daughter to a famous rockstar. Due to her dad’s rocker past, he is overprotective of her. This leads Abbey to want to study abroad for a year in London and get some independence away from her dad. As a history major, Abbey is excited to go to Europe and spend time in her university’s library, which is supposed to be phenomenal. She’s been in touch via email and text with her 3 roommates whom she will live with for the year in a nice house in Notting Hill – Lee, Jackie, and Jamie. Only she arrives in London to find out that Lee, Jackie (Jack), and Jamie are guys and not girls.
Abbey spends the year learning about herself, forming a family with her new roommates that become her close friends, digging into a mystery for her research project, and navigating feelings for 2 different guys – one of her roommates (Jack) and a guy she meets through her friends (Nate). All of this while hiding the fact that her roommates are guys from her overprotective dad. Oh yeah and her roommate Lee has a strict house rule that no roommates are allowed to get together.
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post I’m not a big fan of the love triangle trope, but I thought it was done really well in this book. It wasn’t a secret that Abbey was seeing both of them and figuring out her feelings, because both guys were also figuring out how they felt too. I really appreciated that Abbey was up front with herself about how seeing two people at once was unlike her and that it gave her a lot of anxiety.
Both guys are great and really good looking. Jack is a student and rugby player. He’s fun and allows Abbey to be comfortable and goofy with him. Nate is a bartender and musician who is a free spirit and more broody. Abbey feels like life is an adventure when with him.
I loved Abbey’s journey and I don’t want to spoil who she ends up with, but I was happy with how it turned out! I also really liked the mystery subplot and loved following Abbey’s investigation and research.
Overall, I loved this book, Abbey, and all her roommates. And I just saw the news Elle Kennedy posted yesterday that this book is being made into a tv series!
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the forced proximity, friends to lovers, and love triangle tropes.
