Book Review: King of Sloth

A few days ago I finished reading Ana Huang’s latest Kings of Sin book – King of Sloth and it comes as no surprise that I loved it.

The novel follows Sloane Kensington and Xavier Castillo. Sloane has been in all the other Kings of Sins books as one of the girls in the best friend group consisting of Vivian, Isabella, Alessandra, and her. Xavier has been mentioned in previous book(s) (I don’t remember if he was mentioned in more than 1 book) as one of her clients that she’s always dealing with exasperatedly. Sloane owns/runs one of the top PR firms in the country and Xavier doesn’t really do anything, but was born into a very wealthy family and instead of training to become CEO of his family’s company, he parties and travels leaving Sloane to clean up after him and rehab his image.

His father, who he has been largely estranged from for years has been very sick so while he and Sloane have been fixing his image again, they go Colombia so Xavier can see his father one last time. Upon his father’s passing, Xavier learns that he has until his 30th birthday (6 months) to become CEO or he will forfeit his multi-billion dollar inheritance. Not only does he have to agree to become CEO, a committee handpicked by his father has to approve of the job he has done and vote yes to him receiving his inheritance. And who is one of the people on the committee? Sloane Kensington.

I loved the storyline and the characters. I love Sloane and how hard working and determined she is. Even though she comes from a wealthy family as well, she wanted to make a name for herself and build up her PR firm. Xavier was such a good character and while I loved Sloane, I really loved Xavier. He was just such a fun character. This is a reverse grumpy sunshine, but I wouldn’t technically say Sloane is grumpy. More like she’s very serious and Xavier is fun and sunshine. I really enjoyed the buildup and tension leading to them getting together/admitting their attraction to each other. They worked together for 3 years prior to the start of this book so I loved seeing how well they already knew each other.

Overall, I loved the storyline and characters. The growth both Sloane and Xavier go through and the support system they are for one another was so good. Both have issues with their families so it was like they realized they had each other and I loved that.

Also, I was obsessed with all the Twisted series cameos and mentions!

Read this if you want a spicy billionaire romance with the reverse grumpy sunshine trope.
