Book Review: Daisy Haites

Daisy Haites is the second book in the Magnolia Parks series by Jessa Hastings. It follows Daisy Haites and Christian Hemmes and takes place pretty parallel to Magnolia Parks and goes a bit beyond the ending of that first book.

Christian Hemmes is best friends with Magnolia, BJ, and that group of friends including his brother, Jonah who is also best friends with them all and BJ’s roommate. Christian is roommates with Henry who is also part of the group and BJ’s brother. In Magnolia Parks, we learn that Christian and Magnolia had a little thing together after her and BJ had their big breakup a few years ago. Since then, it has been complicated between them, especially since Christian hasn’t gotten over Magnolia yet even though it’s been a couple years. To make it more complicated he has started a friends with benefit type of relationship with Daisy Haites.

Daisy is the younger sister of Julian and they run in similar circles to Christian and Jonah Hemmes as both the Haites and Hemmes are organized crime families. It is hinted in Magnolia Park that Christian’s family owns nightclubs and that the Hemmes are a criminal famliy, but that it’s better to not know specifics. In Daisy Haites we learn a lot more since Christian is our mmc. The Hemmes own night clubs and the Haites can get you anything you want – weapons, art, etc. After losing her parents at a young age, her older brother Julian basically raised her and had to take over the family business and is the head of the family. Daisy is fierce, strong, a good cook and sort of caretaker in that sense to all the guys who work for her brother, and very intelligent – she’s studying to be a doctor, which is extremely helpful when she has to stitch up her brother and his guys or assess their wounds etc.

Christian and Daisy have known each other since they were little because of their families and Jonah Hemmes and Julian Haites are really good friends. With Daisy being a couple years younger than Christian, he never thought about her too much until recently when he realized Baby Haites was an adult and hot. Soon after they embark on a sort of friends with benefits situation. They get along extremely well and have amazing chemistry. They both begin to fall for each other, but neither realizes this and to add to the complications of it all – Christian thinks he still loves Magnolia and Daisy’s ex – Romeo Brambilla (part of another crime family and his older brother is also best friends with Julian – everyone has an older brother it seems!) is back in town and the two of them are always drawn to one another.

Can Daisy and Christian get past all of the complications and really be together? Will they admit their true feelings to each other and to themselves?

I loved this book and loved Daisy and Christian. I’d seen a lot of people online say that they love Daisy more than Magnolia and I can see why. I, actually, also liked her more for about 3/4 of the book and then for the last 1/4 she was frustrating me so much! I felt like a lot of the issues in that last 1/4 that were making Daisy so sad and upset could’ve been avoided if she would just give Christian a chance to speak. So in that sense I felt like a lot of that conflict was self-inflicted so it was frustrating. I really want a happy ending for them, but I’m worried something bad is going to happen! To them or their brothers/friends. There are/are going to be 3 more Daisy books in the series after this so I’m hoping in the end it’s good.
