Book Review: The Finisher

Over the weekend I finished reading the 4th book in the Dark Verse series by RuNyx – The Finisher.

This novel follows Alessandro “Alpha” Villanova and Zephyr de la Vega. We met Alpha in The Emperor and learned he is the half-brother Dante never knew he had. Alpha, scarred and wearing an eye patch, is quiet and powerful. He runs most of his city and protects the women, children, and less fortunate especially sex workers who don’t want to or can’t give up that life.

Zephyr comes from a middle class family and is a hair stylist who volunteers at the shelter/charitable organization that Alpha runs. When she goes to see a fight, she hears that one of the fighters is the infamous, Alpha, and when she first sees him she is in shock. Not because of how big and powerful he looks or that he’s heavily scarred now. She is shocked because he is the boy she’s been in love with since she was a young girl who disappeared 10 years ago. After he wins his fight, she runs up to him and kisses him. He doesn’t turn her away, but he breaks her heart when he doesn’t know who she is.

What follows is Zephyr convincing Alpha to marry her to help her with a clause in her inheritance and hoping that as they spend time together and live together he will fall back in love with her and maybe remember their past together. But as the two get closer together, they are also in danger as The Syndicate is out to get them just like Dante, Amara, Morana, and Tristan.

I loved reading about Alpha and Zephyr. The slow burn and tension was so good. I loved reading about how much Alpha wanted Zephyr and felt possessive/protective of her but couldn’t figure out why. And I, of course, loved the cameos by Dante, Amara, baby Tempest, Tristan, Morana, and Xander!

I do think there were a lot of unanswered questions that I hope get answered in the last 2 books. I have 1 book left (that is published) and RuNyx keeps teasing that the last book in the series will be announced soon and that it is coming this year so I hope I don’t have too long of a wait!
