Book Review: Leather & Lark
Back in the winter I read Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver and loved the dark romcom so I was highly anticipating the follow up in the Ruinous Love trilogy, Leather & Lark. I loved it! It was definitely slower than the first book, but it’s also a marriage of convenience slow burn so I was still a fan.

This one follows Lachlan Kane (Rowan’s older brother) and Lark Montague (Sloane’s best friend). Lachlan is a leatherworker by day and his dark, side job is contract killer. Little does he know that Sloane’s best friend who we met as a wealthy musician in book 1, also has a deadly hobby that no one knows about. When someone is targeting Lark’s family and framing Lachlan, Lark suggests the only thing she can think to save Lachlan, the Kane brothers, and her Sloane – convince everyone that the two of them are in love and get married.
Lachlan and Lark have a contentious past with each other, but now must trust and rely on each other because their lives depend on it. And they have to do all this while they try to figure out who is really after associates of Lark’s family and why they want to pin it on Lachlan.
This dark romcom is still crazy, unhinged, and absolute fun like Butcher & Blackbird, but maybe a tiny bit less unhinged if that’s possible when they’re all killers! The relationship between Lachland and Lark is a slow burn and goes from them not really liking each other but tolerating each other to being so in love with each other. I loved both Lachlan and Lark and watching their relationship evolve. I also love how protective Lachlan is, which we got a glimpse of in book 1 when you start to see how much he took care of his brothers when they were growing up.
I wish there was a tiny bit more Rowan and Sloane, but they were there every once in a while and I get that the author probably wanted to make sure Lachlan and Lark stayed the stars of this book. I can’t wait to read Fionn and Rose’s story in the last book of the trilogy when it comes out next year and I hope it is a great wrap up with all the characters!
