Book Review: Ocean of Sin & Starlight

Last summer I read Karina Halle’s A Ship of Bones & Teeth and loved it. So when I heard that she was writing a second book set in the same world I had to read it. Ocean of Sin & Starlight follows Maren’s sister, Larimar, and Armand Alcaraz. Larimar is a siren and Armand is a priest, witch, and vampire.

Larimar is searching for her sister, Maren, and thinks if she can find a witch that can give her legs like Maren she’ll be able to find her. She was not expecting to be captured by Armand, or Priest as she calls him, and for him to grant her her wish of getting legs but still be held captive by him so he can feed off her. And neither of them expected to fall in love with each other. But when they are attacked by villagers and separated, 5 years go by before they see each other again. Can they forgive each other for the events that led to their separation? And can Priest control the beast within him?

I really liked Larimar and Priest. The storyline was good, but it was actually sort of a simple storyline so not a lot happened. It was still interesting though so I enjoyed reading it. The spice was great and it was fun to be reunited with Maren and Ramsay too.

So yeah the characters were good, the dark fantasy romance aspect of this book were fun, but don’t expect a really in depth storyline or anything. I liked this book, but did like A Ship of Bones & Teeth more.

Read this if you want a spicy dark fantasy romance with pirates, sirens, and vampires, and the enemies to lovers trope.
