Book Review: Heartless

I recently read and wrote my review for Flawless, the first book in the Chestnut Springs series by Elsie Silver. I loved it so much that I was so excited to read the next book in the series, Heartless. I read it over the weekend and may have loved it even more!

The novel follows Cade Eaton and Willa Ford. We met both characters in Flawless. Cade is Rhett’s eldest brother and Willa is Summer’s best friend. When Cade is trying to find someone to watch his 5 year old son, Luke, while he’s out of school for the summer he turns down all the applicants who mostly seem to have crushes on him and care less about taking care of Luke and more about getting close to Cade. Annoyed with how picky Cade is being, Summer decides to ask her best friend Willa to come out to Wishing Well Ranch for a visit in the hopes that she can talk the two of them to work together. Willa is temporarily out of work since her brother is renovating the bar he owns and she bartends at. Cade and Willa had a chance encounter at a cafe before officially meeting and didn’t realize who the other was until later when Summer introduces them. Cade doesn’t really want to hire someone he’s attracted to, but she’s his best option.

Cade is quiet, reserved, and a little grumpy unless he’s with Luke. Having to grow up really quick after his mother died, Cade never really got a chance to just have fun. Willa may only be in her mid 20s, but she’s lived her share of the fun, party life since she’s been a bartender for years and a change of pace might be just what she needs. The two of them are clearly attracted to one another, but is it a good idea for them to get together? There’s an age gap, she’s the nanny and his soon-to-be sister-in-law’s best friend, and at the end of the summer she’ll be heading back to the city.

I loved Cade and Willa! Willa was so fun and brought out the more playful and sexy side to Cade. And Cade, Luke, and their life on the ranch felt like home to Willa and gave her the life she didn’t even know she was missing. And Luke was so funny and adorable! The evolution of Cade and Willa’s relationship was so fun to read. The spice was so good and the deep love that develops between them is perfection. And Willa and Luke’s love for each other is so sweet. The sweet epilogue was amazing too and full of love. I can’t wait to continue the series!

This series should be read in order since they are interconnected. Read this book if you want a spicy age gap, forced proximity, single dad romance.
