Book Review: Passenger Princess

I just finished Morgan Elizabeth’s Passenger Princess – the first book in her Evergreen Park series – and really enjoyed it.

This romcom follows Ava Bordeaux and Jaime Wilde. Ava just won the Miss Americana pageant and was the underdog because she did not grow up in the pageant life like all the other girls. She joined on a whim to help out her two best friends who are small business owners. She thought if she could be accepted as a contestant at least, she could bring attention to her friends’ businesses. She never thought she could actually win.

Jaime is a bodyguard for the famous band, Atlas Oaks. But since they are on a break from touring, the security company he works for has temporarily reassigned him to guard Ava on her 3-month tour of the country. The two briefly met right after she won, because she’s a friend of the band. The two did not get off on the best foot and now they’re going to be together 24/7, traveling the country together for 3 months.

The attraction and sexual tension between the two is so thick, but Jaime wants to maintain his professionalism and do his job and that means not to get too close to Ava. Ava really likes Jaime too, but her role as Miss Americana has a morality clause that says she’s not allowed to date or be in a relationship at all while she’s queen. And with the pageant runner and the runner-up watching her for any slip ups at all so they can take her crown from her, Ava has to be extra careful.

I enjoyed this book and it was a fun, quick, spicy read. I really liked the storyline and the characters, especially Jaime. He did so many little things and gestures for Ava that were so swoon worthy! Some of Ava’s mannerisms were a little annoying to me, but I did like her as a character and the chemistry between her and Jaime was off the charts. And I loved that there was a sort of epilogue and extended epilogue too! I always love getting a glimpse of what the characters are up to later on in the future.

This is marketed as a grumpy sunshine romcom, but I wouldn’t say it quite fits that trope because Jaime only comes off as grumpy at the beginning and that’s it and it’s less grumpy and more serious.

Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the bodyguard and forbidden romance tropes.
