Book Review: Daydream

The third book in the Maple Hills series by Hannah Grace, Daydream, came out recently and I loved it from start to finish.

The novel follows fan favorte, Henry Turner, and Halle Jacobs. With Nate having graduated the year before, Henry is the new hockey captain ad UC Maple Hills. But Henry is struggling with one of his classes and if he gets another bad grade his coach is going to take the position away from him and he may not be able to play. Halle is another student at Maple Hills and dreams to be a published author, but she hasn’t had a lot of life experiences to draw upon for her stories. Henry and Halle meet and realize they have a few mutual friends like Aurora (from book 2, Wildfire) and hit it off. They become instant friends and Henry and all his friends naturally take Halle in too which is nice for Halle because she has never had a group of friends. Henry and Halle realize they can help each other. Halle can help Henry with the class he’s having trouble in by helping to make his readings and notes more easily consumable for him since he easily gets distracted. And Henry will help Halle get more experiences so she can write about them by doing friend things and going on dates since Halle’s former boyfriend was also her childhood best friend and they never really went on dates. Can they keep doing all these things together and stay “just friends”?

I loved this book and the storyline so much. I was living for Henry. The mix of his neurodivergent mannerisms and personality make him so interesting and so funny. I loved how he and Halle just really got each other and naturally knew what the other needed. This was a real slow burn, friends to lovers romcom and I mean slow but it was worth it.

I felt like parts of what Halle was going through with her family was so relatable and would probably be relatable for a lot of people especially eldest daughters. She is so likable that you are rooting for her the whole time to just tell her family off!

When Icebreaker came out, it was one of my favorite books. Then, I read Wildfire and I really liked that one too but didn’t love it as much as Icebreaker. I think Daydream is up there with Icebreaker. Maybe just behind Icebreaker by a tiny bit.

I hope Hannah Grace reveals who the next book will be about soon! I recommend reading this series in order so you don’t get spoilers, but they are interconnected standalones.

Read this book if you want a friends to lovers, slow burn, romcom with a neurodivergent mmc.
