Book Review: My Vampire Plus-One
A few months ago I read and loved My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine so I was excited to hear that she was writing a sequel, My Vampire Plus-One. I just read it this week and it was just as entertaining as the first book!

The novel follows two minor characters from the first book – Reginald and Amelia. Reginald is Frederick’s oldest friend and a fellow vampire and likes to march to the beat of his own drum. He’s got a louder personality than Frederick and doesn’t care what people think. Amelia is Sam’s sister (Sam is Cassie’s best friend from book 1). She’s an accountant and very focused on work – to the point where she works more than she has a social life.
When the novel begins, Amelia is leaving work despite being swamped to head to a family dinner. Outside her office building, Reginald knocks into her as he tries to lose some people who are chasing him. He asks her to help him out and pretend their in the middle of a conversation. Amelia is confused and also a bit outraged that this guy who ran into her now wants her help. But, there’s something so charming about him plus he’s extremely good looking that she’s convinced to play along. She doesn’t think she’ll ever see him again, but then at her family dinner she learns her cousin is getting married in a few weeks and she’s been given a plus-one. Her mom is always on her case about meeting someone/dating so she sarcastically says she’ll bring her boyfriend to the wedding, not knowing her whole family would think she’s being serious. When she happens to run in to Reggie again the next day she decides to take him up on his offer (he said he owed her one for helping him out) and ask if he’ll be her fake boyfriend and go with her to the wedding. Because he loves practical jokes and because he’s drawn to Amelia, he says yes.
They realize they have mutual friends so it seems like a safe plan. It should be a simple fake dating situation even though they’re both actually attracted to one another and Reginald told Amelia he’s a vampire, but she’s been thinking he was just joking this whole time because vampires don’t really exist. What could go wrong?
I loved this book and Reginald and Cassie. The writing is so funny and clever. I believe I said this about the first book too, but I love the lightheartedness of these books because normally when you think vampire romance you think of something dramatic and dark. You don’t immediately think of a romcom with a vampire who argues over incorrect Trivial Pursuit answers because he lived through the events on the history questions and knows better.
Overall, I loved this book and the only critique I could make on it is that I wish Amelia realized the truth about Reginald earlier on in the book.
Read this if you want a spicy vampire romcom with the fake dating trope.
