Book Review: Road Trip with a Vampire

Last week I read the last book in Jenna Levine’s My Vampires series, Road Trip with a Vampire, and it was such a fun story and a great way to end the series.

The novel follows Zelda Watson, formerly known as “Grizelda the Terrible” and Peter Elliott. Zelda was first mentioned in My Vampire Plus-One as Reggie’s witch friend that he knew for hundreds of years and used to cause chaos with. I don’t remember if she is just mentioned or if she makes a cameo via flashback or something in his book, but in any case the character is introduced in the previous book. Now, Zelda has been living in California as a yoga teacher for the past 10 years and keeping her magic under wraps. She’s living a nice, quiet life until one day Peter Elliott shows up to her small community.

Peter is tall, dark, and handsome. And also a vampire. With amnesia. Peter has no recollection of the last few weeks of his life. He knows his name because he had ID on him when he woke up from a head injury. He knew he was a vampire shortly after waking when he craved human blood. And for some reason he feels like he’s supposed to go to California. But he doesn’t remember anything else about his life. Reggie found him in Chicago, knew he was a vampire, and wanted to help him. When he learned that Peter thinks he’s supposed to go to California, Reggie sends Peter in Zelda’s direction with a note and hopes she will help him figure out who he is.

Zelda is reluctant to help Peter because she wanted to leave vampires and all her years of bad behavior behind her, but when Peter starts receiving ominous notes and her powers start becoming volatile because she’s been surpressing them for too long, Zelda agrees to go on a road trip with Peter to help him regain his memories, help her magic, and spend more time with this hot vampire.

This was a great romcom. I loved Zelda and Peter. They were so fun and the chemistry between them was perfect. It was funny, cute, and sexy. The perfect combination for a romcom. I also loved that Reggie and Frederick (from My Roommate is a Vampire) made appearances too because it helped round out the series. I do wish we got a bonus epilogue with all the main couples, but overall I really enjoyed this book.
