Book Review: Spectacular
I loved being back in the world of Caraval with Stephanie Garber’s novella, Spectacular. This gorgeous novella brings us back to the world of Caraval for The Great Holiday, specifically The Great Holiday Eve Eve, and reunites readers with Tella, Legend, Scarlett, and Julian as they prepare for the magical holiday.

This is the first Great Holiday with Scarlett as the Empress of the Meridian Empire and she is going all out decorating the city and planning a ball etc. As the holiday approaches, Tella is worried about what to get Legend as a gift as he’s not the easiest to shop for and he doesn’t seem that interested in the holiday. She consults a book called “How Not to Lose the Love of Your Life” to try to figure it out and make Legend fall in love with the Great Holiday and not fall out of love with her.
This was a quick read and the storyline was magical and whimsical. The whole world and storyline of the original Caraval books lends itself really well to a magical Christmas (or Great Holiday) story. While I loved the magic of it all and being back with these beloved characters, it wasn’t the most interesting storyline or anything, but that’s okay. It was still a fun time and really the book itself is just so gorgeous with its cover, foiled cover, beautiful illustrations, and end papers.
If you are a Caraval fan, then you definitely have to check out Spectacular!
