Book Spotlight: The Quelling

If you’ve been following me for a while then you know that I’m usually pretty behind on my PR tbr. These are books that were kindly sent to me for review. Sometimes there’s a concrete deadline that I need to post a review by, but often times there isn’t and those books tend to go on the back burner because my tbr is so long. The Quelling by C.L. Lauder was sent to me a year ago and I had intended to read it months ago, but then a majority of my books were in storage for almost 4 months longer than I had anticipated and my copy of The Quelling was included in those books. Once I finally got the book back I was in the middle of so many other books, so until I can get to reading the book I thought I’d at least post a spotlight!

Synopsis

Nineteen-year-old Kyjta hides in a shelter for the Stained with a hundred others, distracting a young girl, Calipsie, from the horror above. Kyjta was branded by an alien fluid when she collected a jug of it to avenge her mother’s murder. As one of the Stained, Kyjta’s skin glistens like liquid starlight, and somehow, the creatures circling overhead can sense her, no matter how well she’s hidden. As one of the hunted, she’s bound by curfew and directed not to be outside after dark. If she’s taken, she’ll be delivered to the Rheman overlord’s ship for quelling, and that’s a fate she’s determined to avoid—she’s partial to piloting her own body. However, when the young girl, Calipsie, who has fallen into her care, is snatched away, destined to be quelled, Kyjta abandons precaution to go after the girl. Forced into an improbable alliance with the enemy, a Rheman named Kranik, Kyjta must not only rescue Calipsie, but also face down the Rheman overlord who’s taken a disturbing interest in her.
