Book Review: The Maid’s Secret

Nita Prose’s last book in the Molly the Maid series came out a few weeks ago, The Maid’s Secret, and it was the perfect ending to the series.

This novel has chapters that alternate from past and present. In present day, Molly and Juan Manuel are getting ready for their upcoming wedding. They are also getting ready for a big event at the Regency Grand Hotel. Popular show, Hidden Treasures, is filming at the hotel. The show has regular people meet with their hosts to have their goods appraised and see if any of their items are actually treasures worth a lot. Molly brings a few things from home including items her Gran left her. A jeweled egg that she was given from a large estate after the owner died, proves to be the original Fabergé egg and worth millions! Things get crazy, Molly goes viral on the internet, and everyone wants to buy the egg from her. But later on when the egg is auctioned off, it gets stolen!

While this is all happening, we are given chapters from Gran’s point of view in a series of letters she left for Molly to read in her diary. Gran tells the story of her life and everything she never told Molly – from her wealthy upbringing, to how her whole life got turned upside down and she became a maid, to the love of her life and how they were star crossed. The letters help Molly learn so much more about her beloved Gran and also shed light on the egg and who is behind the theft.

I loved this book so much and it made me really emotional, which I was not expecting! As much as I adore Molly, I really loved Gran’s parts of the story the most. My heart really ached for her and everything she went through and I wish she had gotten her happy ending with John, her love.

I’m sad that this is the last book of the series, because I will miss all the characters and Molly’s memories of Gran, but it was a really good ending and wrap-up to the story!

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”
