Book Review: The Viscount Who Loved Me

This week I read the 2nd book in the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

This novel, like with The Duke & I, was really engaging and had a ton less drama than the tv show. This novel follows eldest Bridgerton child, Anthony, and newcomer, Kate Sheffield.

Anthony has decided that this year he gets married. His goal is to marry a woman who is smart, beautiful, and someone he won’t fall in love with. He saw how deeply in love his parents were and how devastating it was when his father died and he never wants to experience that. Plus, he believes he will die at a young age like his father so he shouldn’t be seeking out a love match.

Kate is 21 and in London for the 2nd season. She would like to find someone to marry, but she believes that all the eligible bachelors will be more interested in her beautiful, younger sister, Edwina. When Anthony turns his attention towards Edwina, Kate does everything she can to keep them apart because she’s heard all about Anthony’s rakish ways through Lady Whistledown. But the more she intervenes, the more she gets to know Anthony and the more they both develop feelings for one another. Will Kate see that there’s more to Anthony than his womanizing reputation? Will Anthony allow himself to fall in love?

I really liked this book and actually loved Kate more in the book than in the tv show. I liked how straightforward this book was with less drama. The show had this whole subplot of Kate and Anthony almost betraying Edwina with them developing feelings for each other behind Edwina’s back and her almost being played for a fool. But, in the book Edwina doesn’t have feelings for Anthony like that so there’s no betrayal or anything. She’s also a lot smarter than in the show. In the show, everyone was like how is Edwina so dumb that she doesn’t notice anything going on between Kate and Anthony? I like that they didn’t make her so oblivious in the book.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and loved Anthony and Kate together!
