Book Review: Prince in Disguise

Back at Christmas one of my besties gave me one of those blind date with a book gifts where it’s very prettily wrapped and you know the genre and maybe the tropes or a brief synopsis but you don’t know what book it is. I did open it back in December, but I just read it last week! The book was Prince in Disguise by Stephanie Kate Strohm.

The novel follows Dylan, a 16 year old girl from Mississippi. She has lived her life in Mississippi in the shadow of her super popular older sister who was a pageant queen and her mom, a news anchor. Her sister was on a reality show where she ended up falling in love and getting engaged to a Scottish lord. Now the wedding is in Scotland and her future brother-in-law’s family’s castle and Dylan has to spend three weeks there for the holidays and the wedding. Not only does she have to go to Scotland, but it will all be filmed for tv and Dylan has tried her hardest to not be on the show. That proves to be difficult when she’s trapped with the camera crew and nosy producer in a remote Scottish castle. The one good thing? Dylan met and became fast friends with Jamie, one of the groomsmen, who is around her age. The two enjoy spending time together and have a similar sense of humor. But can the two explore their crushes on each other without it all being caught on camera and televised for the world to see?

This was a really cute YA romcom. I really liked Dylan and Jamie. Even Dusty, Dylan’s sister, who seemed like she’d be a mean girl had a lot more to her that meets the eye and I found her to be a really interesting character. The ending was a little bittersweet, but realistic. It definitely leaves it open to a sequel and if Stephanie Kate Strohm wrote one I’d definitely read it to see what happens next for Dylan and Jamie!
