Book Review: Pitcher Perfect
I read Pitcher Perfect, the 4th book in Tessa Bailey’s Big Shots series this past week and it was a fun quick read!

The novel follows Robbie Corrigan and Skylar Page. The beginning of this novel ties in to a scene from Dream Girl Drama when the hockey players meet up with the baseball players to play a game in the park. Oh and they hate each other. One of the baseball players, Elton, recruited his sister who is a star softball pitcher at BU to pitch at this game and that is where she meets Robbie.
He annoys her, but he is completely enamored by her at first sight. Skylar on the other hand can’t keep her eyes off the catcher, Madden, her friend since childhood and her brother’s best friend. She has had a crush on him for years and during this game it seems like the first time he looked her way in a way other than a “my best friend’s little sister” way. Could it be because Robbie keeps shamelessly flirting with her?
This leads to an idea for Robbie. He can tell Skylar has a crush on Madden and that it might be unrequited, but maybe she just needs to capture his attention. And as much as it hurts that the girl he likes, likes someone else, he just wants to spend any amount of time he can with her. So he proposes fake dating at her parents’ annual Page Stakes – a competition of different outdoor activities they host every year. Skylar’s best friend had to cancel on her due to work leaving Skylar needing a partner. Robbie suggests being her partner at this competition that she dreads every year and maybe they’ll win this year since he’s also athletic like her and also as competitive as she is. If she shows up with her new “boyfriend” Madden might realize what he’s missing out on too. But as the two spend time together at her parents’ house in Rhode Island for the competition, they get to know each other and real feeling develop in this fake relationship. Will Skylar forget about Madden for Robbie? Is Robbie ready for a relationship sinc he’s always been known as a player and casual hookup guy?
I really enjoyed this book. It was fun, entertaining, and such a quick read. I loved that Tessa Bailey didn’t make Robbie “dumb” or some goofy character in this book. He is kinda portrayed that way in the earlier books in the series, especially when he’s with his best friend and roommate, Mailer. I liked Skylar too and how even when she wasn’t sure if she even liked Robbie or not, the two of them had each other’s backs during the Page Stakes.
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the fake dating trope.
