Book Review: On the Way to the Wedding

I finally finished the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. It took me a while, but I didn’t read the books back to back. The last book On the Way to the Wedding focused on the youngest son of the Bridgerton family, Gregory, and Lucy Abernathy.

Gregory is in his late 20s now and feeling the pressure from his eldest brother, Anthony, to decide what he wants to do with his future. One option is to get married. Gregory believes in love and is a bit of a romantic, but hasn’t met anyone he wants to marry. That is until he goes to his brother Anthony and sister-in-law Kate’s house party at the Bridgerton country home for a week and meets Hermione Watson and is enchanted with her before he even speaks to her for the first time. Hermione’s best friend, Lucy Abernathy, is used to every man they’ve come across for the past 3 years to become head over heels for Hermione instantly. However, Hermione never gives any potential suitors the time of day because she has feelings for someone else – someone her parents would not approve of. When Lucy meets Gregory and can tell he likes her friend, she tries to help him because he seems nice, is good looking, comes from a prominent family, and would be a much better match for her than the man Hermione wants to be with. But as Lucy and Gregory get closer to try to help him win Hermione’s heart, the two realize they get along really well and might like each other. The only problem is, Lucy’s guardian (her uncle) had promised her to someone else.

I really liked both Gregory and Lucy a lot and I liked the storyline, but considering this is the last book in the whole series I thought it was underwhelming. It was an interesting story and I liked the characters but there wasn’t anything really special about it or a book that I couldn’t put down. The storyline towards the end of the book started to become a bit unhinged actually involving abductions and spoiler alert – Lucy’s uncle threatening to watch her consummate her marriage to the guy he wanted her to marry to ensure they could not get annulment. It was just getting weird! But the ending was and epilogue (and bonus epilogue) were good. I still would’ve liked more of a wrap-up for the series as a whole, but overall I liked the book.
