King of Ravens: When it has the “Touch her and Die” trope

I read Clare Sager’s King of Ravens a few months ago and loved it. One of the tropes in this dark fantasy romance is “touch her and die” and I have the perfect quote from the book to encapsulate the trope.

“He threatened you, and I know he managed to get you alone and that must have been frightening. But know this. If he had so much as touched you, I would’ve flayed each finger that dared to encroach upon you, even if it had only touched a hair upon your head, and I’d have made him sew it into a purse. And then I’d have made him offer his tongue to you wrapped in that.”

What makes this trope and quote even better in my opinion is that Annon views Drystan for a a long time as the enemy and thinks he’s this evil guy who took her from her family and she’s constantly being surprised by how kind he is to her and how he’s not like what she thought he would be like.
