Book Review: While We’re Young

K.L. Walther is one of my favorite YA authors. Actually, to be honest my two favorites are her and Lynn Painter – but Lynn Painter also write adult romance books which I’m a fan of too. Anyway, I still have 2 published books of hers that I haven’t read yet so I’m pacing myself since her next release isn’t until next spring or summer.

Last week I read While We’re Young and naturally, I loved it!

The novel is told from 4 different POVs and is inspired by Ferris Bueller. Grace, Isa, Everett, and James are all seniors in high school. Grace and James are siblings, but only 11 months apart. Grace and Isa have been best friends since they were little and Everett used to be their third best friend but after Isa and him broke up freshman year, things haven’t been the same. However, all their parents are close friends so Everett is still very much in their lives.

With the end of high school approaching, Grace who is a top student and class president, plans for her and her best friends to cut school and adventure around Philadelphia and relive happy memories from their childhood. Will they be able to pull it off? Will Grace tell her best friend, Isa, that her and Everett have feelings for each other? Will Isa tell Grace that she and Grace’s brother, James, have feelings for each other?!

This was a fun book and I loved each of the characters. They were all perfect for each other and I loved that they were all just best friends first. The adventure from place to place was entertaining and parts were outlandish, but still in a believable way! The class president, class valedictorian, star athlete, and brilliant musician were fun to follow around even during the deeper and sadder moments.

I loved the book, but wish there was an epilogue! I do love that K.L. Walther’s books are all set in the same universe so this won’t be the last we ever see or hear about these characters and that makes me happy!

Read this if you want a YA romcom with adventure and not one but two friends to lovers romances!
