Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire Concert
This past Saturday I went to seeΒ Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire in concert. Yes, in concert! You might be wondering what that means. So NJPAC (New Jersey Performing Arts Center) played the movie on a big screen on a stage while the New Jersey Symphony played the score. It was such a cool experience and I’d been looking forward to it since I bought the tickets weeks ago.
First off, the venue is gorgeous inside. I’d never been to the NJPAC before in Newark, but it is really nice inside. I got tickets pretty late, so my seats were high up (not all the way at the top though) but it was okay because I could get a view of the whole orchestra. It was so cool to watch the movie while the orchestra played the music that went along with each scene from the movie. We weren’t supposed to take videos during the movie, but I snuck one short video during the opening credits before the movie really started. Shhh, don’t tell anyone! I just wanted a memory of the live music as the movie played, for myself.
The experience of hearing the score live as the magic ofΒ Harry Potter plays on the screen is fantastic. There was a brief intermission right before the Yule Ball scene which was nice so people could take bathroom breaks and get some snacks/drinks from the snack bars.
I never knew this was a thing or else I would’ve definitely gone for the first 3 movies! I definitely want to go for the rest of the Harry Potter movies. Next month, they’re doing Star Wars and after an extensive search through the NJPAC calendar, I saw they’re doingΒ Order of the Phoenix in June. Definitely going to try to go to that!

Very cool. Last weekend some friends of mine in California saw something similar at the Hollywood Bowl, but it was for Nightmare Before Christmas. They had different celebrities sing the songs and Danny Elfman was there too! And apparently they played some Oingo Boingo (Dead Manβs Party) at the end.
