Book Review: Hunted
I read Hunted by Sarah Biglow and Molly Zenk and really enjoyed it. It was a quick read at under 200 pages and kept my interest the whole way.

The book is the first in a trilogy and is told from two perspectives. Edith Dorset is a young woman who has been a vampire for 100 years. After losing her fiancé in World War I, she attempts suicide but is turned by Mr. Heartsong, who becomes her clan leader. In the world of Hunted vampires belong to clans and the clan she belongs to do not attack humans and drink blood provided to them from the Red Cross. In this world people also know vampires really do exist. With vampire numbers dwindling, the clan tries to recruit by hosting LARPing (live action role play) weekends where humans sign up to be either vampires or humans. The weekend is full of activities and classes. Those who sign up to pretend to be vampires, they feel, are more likely to be open to the idea of converting to vampirism and at the end of the weekend the truth is revealed (their hosts are vampires) and if they want to be turned they will be and if they don’t want to their memory is wiped of the weekend.
Edith has had a good life for the past 100 years, even adopting 2 girls who were turned years ago. Until, one recruitment weekend when the Paxton brothers come into her life. The other perspective in the novel is Darren Paxton, vampire hunter. His also the great-great nephew of Edith’s dead fiancé! But the Paxtons aren’t at the recruitment weekend to hunt the vampires down and Edith is learning that Mr. Heartsong might not be the caring and honorable leader she had thought.
Everything in the story felt like it was happening really fast, but when you consider the book is less than 200 pages it makes sense that the story would be fast paced. It’s a nice change of pace for me, though, to be able to get really into a story that is a quick read.
I enjoyed it so much that I ordered the 2nd book on Amazon already!
