Book Review: A Curse for True Love

I finally read A Curse for True Love, the long awaited last book in the Once Upon a Broken Heart series by Stephanie Garber. This post contains some spoilers for books 1 & 2!

Of course, I had to wear this cute fox sweater since Jacks affectionately calls Evangeline “Little Fox”!

The novel picks up right after the end of The Ballad of Never After. The Valory Arch has been opened and Evangeline has lost her memory which was such a heartbreaking end to book 2 since her and Jacks had finally realized they love each other. She doesn’t really remember any of her time in the Magnificent North, but she’s been told that she’s now a princess since she is married to Apollo and that Jacks is evil and that he took her memories and is dangerous.

The novel follows Evangeline as she uncovers the truth and tries to get her memories back, Apollo trying to keep Evangeline with him and gain more power and immortality, and Jacks trying to keep Evangeline away from him in fear of the curse put upon him which says his kiss will kill her but also wanting to keep her safe from others who want to harm her.

I loved being reunited with Jacks and Evangeline. I love them so much! With that being said, I did think the book fell a little flat for me. Not a lot happened in the book and didn’t get really exciting until maybe the last 70-100 pages and even then I thought there would be more to it. It was a real missed opportunity in my opinion! Also, I wanted more pay off for the slow burn of Jacks and Evangeline’s love story. We waited 3 books for them to finally be together so I definitely wanted more!

Overall, I thought the book was just okay, but I still loved being back in the Magnificent North and with Jacks and Evangeline!
