Book Review: Gold

I’m a fan of Raven Kennedy’s Plated Prisoner series and the latest book is Gold. It was meant to be the conclusion to the series, but a few months ago she announced that she wasn’t able to write everything she wanted to conclude the story without it becoming too massive of a book so there will be one more book out this summer. And Gold is over 600 pages so I can’t even imagine how long it would’ve been if she did fit it all into one book!

I’ll keep this review brief since I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who isn’t caught up with the series or hasn’t read the series yet!

The novel picks up shortly after the end of Glow. Auren and Slade have been separated with her falling through the rip that he created to save her life and it closing up before he could go after her. Now Auren is in Annwyn, the Seventh Kingdom where the fae live and has been separated from the rest of Orea for a very long time. Auren is trying to find a way back to Orea and to Slade and meanwhile making some new friends who all believe she was fated to return to Annwyn to help overthrow the King who has become a tyrant.

Back in Orea, Slade will stop at nothing to regain his raw power that allows him to open rips so he can find Auren, but nothing is working. So as he waits he gets revenge on all that had a hand in what happened to Auren. His Wrath try to help him as they keep an eye on what’s going on with the other kingdoms and Osrik doesn’t leave Rissa’s bedside after she was brutally attacked in the previous book.

Malina is coming to terms with the mistakes she has made in the past and finds support in an unlikely person (no spoilers!). But, I have to say I immensely enjoyed the Malina chapters. In the previous books, I could take or leave her character – I didn’t feel strongly about her one way or another – but I really loved her character development in this book and I loved her chapters.

The cliffhanger at the end may have left me reeling. I can’t wait to see how it will all wrap up in Goldfinch this summer.
