Book Review: Goldfinch
It’s the end of an era – the sixth and final book in the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy, Goldfinch, is out and I just read it last week.

I don’t want to spoil the book especially since it’s the last book in the series, so I’ll keep my review a little shorter and more vague than usual.
The novel picks up where Gold left off. Auren is in Annwyn with the fae and is working with Vulmin to bring down the king who is determined to march into Orea and kill all oreans. Slade is determined to find and be reunited with Auren. The rest of the Wrath, especially Slade’s brother Ryatt, want to find Auren too but they’re also focused on all the fae that are crossing over into Orea trying to take over and destroy all of their kingdoms.
This was a great wrap up to the series. When I think back to the first book so much has changed and happened over the course of the series. Basically everything is different from the start of the series. Some highlights of this book were Slade and Auren’s undying love for each other and how it transcends time, worlds, everything. I love the progression of Osrik and Rissa’s relationship and their acknowledgement of their love for each other. Side note: I got the Walmart edition of the book for the bonus chapter and I was so happy with the bonus chapter being Osrik’s POV of the big chapter between him and Rissa.
A lot happened throughout the book unlike some of the previous books that while amazing sometimes felt like there was a lot of extra stuff that didn’t need to be there and the book could’ve been shorter. This book was just short of 700 pages but it flew by and there wasn’t anything in there that wasn’t crucial to the storyline so I was good with the length. And while it was a great wrap up to the series like I previously mentioned, the last 150 pages were brutal! I seriously thought to myself that Raven Kennedy was like “How can I torture my readers and inflict the most pain upon them?” I cried multiple times during those last 150 pages and most of them were sad tears.
Overall, I loved the book but am not happy with some of the things that happened in those last 150 pages! The ending also kind of leaves an open ending for Ryatt so I hope Raven Kennedy writes a spinoff book or series for him! I think a spinoff with him and Emonie would be so fun because during their brief interactions you can tell there’s something there with how exasperated he was with her and how she loved pushing his buttons.
It’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this series for sure, but like I said I’m hoping for a spinoff so maybe this isn’t the last we see of these characters!
