Book Review: Butcher & Blackbird

Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver has been on my tbr since I heard about it a few months ago. I finally read it and loved it!

The novel is a spicy, dark romcom. It follows Sloane aka the Orb Weaver aka Blackbird (Rowan’s nickname for her) and Rowan aka the Butcher. They are both serial killers of serial killers. They go after bad people. After they meet going after the same bad guy one day they become friendly rivals. They had heard of each other and each other’s conquests for a while, but had never met. There is an instant chemistry between the two and Rowan suggests a friendly game. Every year, his older brother, Lachlan, will message them a clue that should lead them to a target. Whoever gets to the target first wins. Over the next few years the two have fun competing against one another, keeping in touch, and dying to see one another again.

This book was so entertaining! There were some gruesome/disgusting scenes for sure with the killing/torture but most of the other parts were funny or had humorous elements at least. It was a slow burn for a good portion of the book, but once the spice got spicin’ it was spicyyyy. I absolutely adored Sloane and Rowan together! What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to post my book review of two serial killers in love? lol

I can’t wait for the next book about Lachlan and Sloane’s best friend, Lark!

Read this if you want a spicy, dark romcom with the rivals to lovers, friends to lovers, and slow burn tropes. Make sure to check trigger warnings before reading though!
