Book Review: Practice Makes Perfect
Practice Makes Perfect is the second Rome, Kentucky book by Sarah Adams – the first being When in Rome. This was really cute and I think I liked it more than When in Rome!

Practice Makes Perfect follows Annie Walker and Will Griffin. Annie is Noah’s youngest sister from book 1 and she owns the local flower shop. Will was mentioned and briefly seen in book 1 and he is Amelia’s bodyguard. Annie is always seen as innocent, sweet, and her sisters have nicknamed her “Angel Annie” since she was a kid. Although Rome is a small, quiet town with very little threats towards music star, Amelia, Will is back in the week leading up to her wedding to Noah in case paparazzi show up or crazy fans. Will has been all over the Internet as Amelia’s hot bodyguard and Annie’s brief interactions with him in the past has her crushing on him secretly too. Little does she know that Will, who is fundamentally opposed to marriage and relationships, finds something special about her.
When Annie decides she really wants to be out on the dating scene and find someone to marry, she goes out on a date and it is disastrous. And, of course, Will happens to be at the same restaurant and sees it all go down. Amelia being the only person who knows about Annie’s date, comes up with a plan to help Annie become more comfortable with dating – have Will be Annie’s dating coach. That should go smoothly right?!
This was a really cute read and I loved Annie and Will. I loved Annie’s self-discovery and figuring out her wants and needs. And also her recognizing what she wants in life that’s more than the box she put herself in and let her sisters and the town keep her in (being the “goody goody” etc.) her whole life. I love Will helping her realize what she wants in life and also Annie being in his life helping him work through his past and that maybe his thoughts on relationships and marriage may not be so set in stone after all.
My only critique of the novel is that I wish there was a little more of the dating coach aspect of the story as that was the premise. They did spend a lot of time together, which ended up helping them both out in their personal growth, but it sometimes felt like that dating coach storyline was forgotten about.
Read this if you want a bodyguard romcom. I’m counting this as a bodyguard romance even though Will isn’t Annie’s bodyguard.
