Book Review: Fangirl Down
I read Tessa Bailey’s latest, Fangirl Down, this week and loved it! It’s definitely my favorite Tessa Bailey book in a while as the past few I’ve really enjoyed but didn’t quite measure up to It Happened One Summer or Hook, Line, & Sinker.

The novel follows Josephine Doyle and Wells Whitaker. Wells is a grumpy pro golf player whose bad attitude and poor playing streak has made him quit. Josephine is his number one fan and would go to his tournaments with posters and cheer for him from the sidelines. She also runs her family’s pro shop and knows everything about golf. When a hurricane hits Florida, Wells wonders if Josephine is okay especially because he feels guilty about how he blew off his biggest fan. When he goes to check on her shop he finds her there assessing the extensive damage. The worst part is that due to expenses in recent years, Josephine let her insurance lapse so the shop has no insurance and she also stopped her health insurance which she desperately needs as she’s diabetic. Refusing to accept a loan, Wells decides he’s going to do whatever it takes to get back on the PGA tour so he can hire Josephine as his caddie so she can make money to fix up the shop and if he starts winning again she’ll get a share of his prize money as well.
I loved Wells and Josephine so much. They were such good characters, the storyline was great, the banter, etc. I loved seeing the grumpy Wells soften to the happy Josephine and want to do anything to help her. We also get little glimpses of Josephine’s best friend, Tallulah, and Wells friend, professional hockey player, Burgess, who are going to be the main characters in the next book in the Big Shots series! Their first meeting and their initial interaction were so entertaining so I can’t wait to read their book!
Read this if you want a spicy, sports romcom with the grumpy sunshine trope.
