Book Review: The Nanny

I’ve had The Nanny by Lana Ferguson on my tbr for a while ever since I saw someone post something about it on Instagram and the premise intrigued me immediately.

The novel follows Cassie Evans and Aiden Reid. Cassie is a grad student for occupational therapy and it’s been taking her a while to get through school since she is on her own and working her way through school. In her mid-twenties, she is let go from her job at a hospital due to budget cuts and needs to find a new job to continue school and you know, survive. Aiden is an executive chef and single father to a 9 year old girl, Sophie, and in need of a live-in nanny. Cassie applies for the job and gets it. Everything is going great – Aiden and Cassie get along really well and Sophie is warming up to Cassie. There is a bit of an attraction between Aiden and Cassie, but neither gives in to the temptation because of their boss/employer relationship.

What they don’t realize is they know each other. A few years ago to make money, Cassie was a creator on OnlyFans. Aiden was her biggest fan and had told her about his scar. They would talk all the time and even made plans to meet one day but something happened a year ago and they never did. They never knew each other’s real names and Cassie wore a wig and half mask in all her videos. When they find out the truth about each other will things blow up because of their past online interactions or will they get their second chance?

I loved this book and loved Aiden and Cassie. Sophie was such a good character too! I will say that before going into this book I thought it was going to be more of a romcom and there are funny moments and dialogue, but it’s less romcom-y than I had anticipated which didn’t bother me. I normally wouldn’t be a big fan of the nanny storyline, but when you learn their background and watch their relationship develop it really works here. My one critique is that one of the characters finds out the truth before the other and I thought that character being afraid to tell the other and the repetitive “I’m going to tell so and so soon” ended up being a little too drawn out in my opinion. But, overall, I enjoyed this book a lot and would definitely read more by Lana Ferguson!

Read this if you want a spicy single dad/nanny romance with the forced proximity and second chance tropes.
