Book Review: My Roommate is a Vampire
I’ve been hearing good things about My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine since last year and I was in the mood for a lighthearted, entertaining read last week so it seemed like the perfect time to read it!

The novel follows Cassie Greenberg, an artist working multiple jobs who is looking for a new place to live after getting evicted. When she sees an ad for a roommate it seems too good to be true. The person is looking for a roommate to live with him in his apartment, in a very nice part of Chicago, in a large, fancy apartment all for $200 a month. Cassie weighs the possibility of him being a murderer against desperately needing a place to live and decides to at least meet the guy and see the place.
Frederick J. Fitzwilliam seems nice and very proper. Nothing about him seems dangerous and they supposedly will hardly cross paths. He works nights and sleeps during the day. He tells Cassie she can do as she pleases in the apartment, just don’t disturb him from his sleep during the day.
As Cassie and Frederick get to know one another from their small interactions and all the notes they leave for each other, Cassie comes to the conclusion that Frederick is a nice guy, but seems like he’s from another time. He’s also the most attractive man she’s ever seen. It doesn’t take long for Cassie to find out that Frederick is actually from another time. He’s a vampire who has been asleep for the past 100 years. He needs her to help him acclimate to the 21st century.
The book was lighthearted, funny, and so entertaining. I loved Frederick and Cassie. The tension was great and Cassie teaching Frederick about life in the 21st century was hilarious i.e. Frederick asking her if Instagram is just a thing where people share photos of food. Parts of the storyline were a little cliche, but I didn’t mind because it was a fun read.
I’m looking forward to the spinoff book coming out this fall following Frederick’s friend Reginald and the sister of Cassie’s best friend, My Vampire Plus-One.
Read this if you want a spicy paranormal romcom with vampires and the forced proximity, roommate tropes.
