Book Review: The Reason I Married Him
A couple months ago I read and loved The Way I Hate Him by Meghan Quinn so I knew I had to read the next book in the Almond Bay series – The Reason I Married Him.

This spicy romcom follows Aubree Rowley and Wyatt Preston. If you read The Way I Hate him, Aubree is introduced in that book as Hattie’s sister who runs the farm. In that book it is hinted that half the farm is owned by their late brother-in-law’s brother and Aubree worries about what this guy might do with his half of the farm. Now in this book we learn that Wyatt is that brother-in-law.
Wyatt is a successful thriller author and was recently broken up with when his fiancée broke up with him right before their wedding. While getting over his heartbreak, he remembers that his grandfather’s cabin where he has very fond memories, was left to the first grandchild who marries. Now that he is no longer engaged, his cousin who wants to tear down the cabin, decides to propose to his girlfriend. Wyatt comes up with an idea. What if he goes to Almond Bay and convince Aubree to marry him for business purposes. If they marry, he will inherit his family cabin and in exchange he will give Aubree his half of the land. “Your hand for my land”. Aubree, who has been closed off, private, and guarded for most of her life due to her childhood, has no desire to take Wyatt up on his offer. That is until her ex-boyfriend moves back to Almond Bay and he’s married. To her ex best friend. And they’re having a baby.
Can the two pull off convincing everyone that they’re in love and their engagement isn’t sudden?
I loved this book! I loved Aubree and Wyatt. Their banter was so funny and the tension was so good. It’s the perfectly delicious slow burn, fake dating, marriage of convenience romcom. While there were plenty of funny parts, there were parts that made me emotional too, especially with Aubree’s past. I loved being reunited with Hattie, Hayes, Ryland, and their adorable and sassy niece, Mac (I really want a book for Ryland!). I really enjoyed seeing Wyatt open himself back up after getting hurt by his ex and seeing Aubree actually be herself and let herself be vulnerable with Wyatt.
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the fake dating, slow burn, marriage of convenience, reverse grumpy sunshine tropes!
