Book Review: The Blast from the Past

Earlier this week I finished the third Riley Thorn book – The Blast from the Past by Lucy Score. It’s always fun to be reunited with Riley, Nick, and the crazy cast of characters!

The romcom mystery picks up a little after the end of book 2 and Riley and Nick are now living together in the fixer upper mansion next door to where she used to live with her crazy, eccentric, octogenarian roommates. Nick’s PI office is in the mansion as well now and Riley is working for him doing administrative work. The house needs a ton of work and certain areas still smell faintly of a decomposing body, but it will all get taken care of eventually, right? Well, it would all get taken care of except ever since Riley’s grandmother informed Nick and his ex-partner, Detective Weber, that his sister Beth who has been missing for years and is presumed dead is actually alive back at the end of book 2, Nick has been obsessed with the cold case and trying to find her. Wanting her boyfriend back, Riley decides to take matters into her own hands and use her psychic abilities to try to find Beth. Except her powers are on the fritz and her former roommates keep coming over unannounced and uninvited creating even more chaos.

I continue to adore this series and its cast of characters – especially Riley and Nick. I will say that this one wasn’t my favorite of the series and I didn’t feel as invested in the story. Maybe because it seemed like Nick and Riley spent more time apart in this book. I did still enjoy it and will no doubt continue on with the series. Book 4 just released this week! Also, I need Weber and Jasmine to get together already! We all know it’s going to happen with their snarking at each other!
